Certainty of evidence assessment in systematic reviews published by high-impact sports science journals: a meta-epidemiological study

(Sicherheit der Evidenzbewertung in systematischen Übersichten, die von hochrangigen sportwissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften veröffentlicht werden: Eine meta-epidemiologische Studie)

Key Points: 1. Approximately one in five (20.6%) of systematic reviews published in high-impact exercise and sports science journals between 2016 and 2022 assessed the certainty of evidence. 2. The overwhelming majority of systematic reviews that assessed certainty of evidence addressed the domains of risk of bias, imprecision, and inconsistency of the results, though other domains were less commonly assessed. 3. Increased uptake and clear reporting of methods to assess certainty of evidence in systematic reviews will improve readers` interpretation of evidence and increase adherence to standards of systematic review reporting as laid out in the PRISMA 2020 and PERSiST guidelines.
