The impact of daytime napping following normal night-time sleep on physical performance: a systematic review, meta-analysis and meta-regression

Key Points 1. Daytime napping before afternoon training sessions and/or competition could be recommended as a way to supplement night-time sleep as well as enhance athletic performance. 2. Longer naps might be more beneficial in optimizing physical performance. 3. The impact of a diurnal nap may be affected by (i) nap durations, (ii) time of day of naps, (iii) sleep inertia, and (iv) exercise type.
