Scientific controversies constitute one of the main objects of the sociology of science. Because they bring to light the different actors and what they mobilize in order to support their position, they make it possible to analyse the social processes involved in the construction of scientific knowledge. This article, by synthesizing the results of several surveys, aims at showing the interest of an argumentative approach of scientific controversies in the field of sport. Four areas of work are covered: the analysis of the argumentative strategies of researchers, the identification of conceptions behind the arguments they put forward, the study of the temporal dynamics of the debates and, lastly, the question of their acceptance by sport professionals and practicioners.
