(Wissenschaft und Industrie gegen Blutdoping (SIAB))
Science and Industry Against Blood doping (SIAB) is a non-profit research consortium that specialises in the development of strategies to detect and deter blood doping in elite sport. The consortium is led by Dr Michael Ashenden who collaborates with international research institutions and pharmaceutical companies. SIAB`s goal is to rid sport of all forms of blood doping.
Funding to conduct SIAB`s research is obtained via grant applications to a range of international antidoping organisations. These include the:
* World Anti Doping Agency (WADA);
* United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA);
* Australian Government`s Anti Doping Research Panel (ADRP);
* Danish Government`s Anti Doping Danmark (ADD);
* French Government`s French Agency for the Fight against Doping (AFLD).
SIAB`s goal is to develop methodologies to detect and/or deter all forms of blood doping. The strategy to achieve this goal is to:
a) identify current and anticipate future blood doping trends;
b) initiate proactive collaboration with pharmaceutical companies before their products are released commercially;
c) collaborate with specialist researchers to develop novel detection and deterrent strategies.
