Effect of a single bout of high-intensity sprint exercise programme compared to traditional high-intensity sprint interval exercise and endurance exercise on inflammatory markers, lipid profile and health-related physical fitness measurements in participants with elevated cardiovascular disease risk (PhD Academy Award)
What did I do? Aim/s of your PhD
My PhD addressed the aims and objectives in three published studies (studies 1, 3 and 4) and one unpublished study (study 2). Study 1 was a meta-analysis and systematic review. Study 2 investigated the association between cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) measurements, cardiometabolic risk factors and inflammatory markers. Study 3 investigated the effect of the 90 s `Gear` exercise programme repeated at different times in the day (GEP-DT) and 18 min `Gear` exercise programme repeated at one point in time (GEP-OT) on cardiometabolic risk factors. Study 4 investigated the effect of the `Gear` exercise programmes on markers of inflammation and CRF.
Why did I do it? Rationale for your PhD
Sedentary behaviour increases the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD).1 `Lack of time` is a barrier to exercise.2 Thus, the study compared the effects of the new time-efficient `Gear` exercise programmes with traditional exercise …
