In order to stay ahead of the doping cheaters the IOC, MC has faced the issue of advancements of gene therapy medicines in relation to organised sport. Senior members of the Medical Commission had a presentation from the chief scientific officer of the Modex Therapeutics E Edward Baetge, in September 2001. The panel of outside experts included: Stylianos Antonorakis, University of Geneva Theodore Friedmann, University California at San Diego Inder Verma, Salk Institute Douglas Jolly, BioMedica Inc.
