Effect of frequency on damping and visco-elastic properties of materials used for ski-boots
(Die Auswirkung der Frequenz auf die dämpfenden und visco-elastischen Eigenschaften von Materialien für Skistiefel)
In recent years a consistent attention has been given to the study of dynamic properties of skis. On the contrary, very few studies deal with dynamic properties of ski-boots. For this reason, we have investigated the visco-elastic properties of the thermoplastic materials used in the production of ski-boots as a function of temperature and frequency, as well as the flexural behaviour of ski-boots at different angular velocities and temperatures, using a purpose built test bench. The aim of this work is to understand the effect of different materials on the ability of ski-boots to dampen the characteristic resonance frequencies of the ski while retaining good flex and rebound properties during skiing.
