Protecting the ACL in alpine sking with binding plates

(Schutz des vorderen Kreuzbands im alpinen Skilauf durch Bindungsplatten)

The objective of this paper is to present a concept for reducing ACL injuries in alpine skiing without increasing the likelihood of inadvertent release by using a binding plate.. Grade III ACL injures account for over 20% of all injuries in skiing (Shealy et al. 2003). The two most common mechanisms for ACL injury are addressed: a simple BIAD, modeled in two dimensions (Webster and Brown 1996), and a combined inward rotation and valgus movement. The reduction of either internal rotation or valgus loads can reduce the likelihood of ACL injury (Choongsoo et al. 2011).
