Flow state as mediating variable between confidence and performance

(Flow-Zustand als vermittelnde Variable zwischen Selbstvertrauen und Leistung)

Introduction: Flow state is a crucial variable that can facilitate optimal performance in sport (Jackson & Csikszentmihalyi, 1999). Jackson, Thomas, Marsh, and Smethurst (2001) provided evidence that flow dimensions significantly predicted performance outcomes, that is, finishing position and errors in orienteering. With regard to confidence, Previous research found that trait sport confidence is an important variable underlying flow in sport (Stavrou & Zervas, 2004), and Martens, Vealey, and Burton (1990) proposed a positive linear relationship between confidence and performance. The aim of this study is to examine whether flow state is a mediating variable between trait sport confidence and performance in tennis competition.
