Effects of four weeks plyometric training on tumbler athletes power output - A pilot study
(Auswirkungen eines vierwöchigen plyometrischen Trainings auf die Leistungsabgabe von Sportakrobaten (Tumbling) - Eine Pilotstudie)
Plyometric contraction are used in most acrobatic skills in tumbling. The aim of the present study was to assess the effects of a specific four weeks plyometric training on jumping performance, measured during standardized jumps (squat jump and counter movement jumps) and also during a sport specific jump (standing back tuck), contact time on floor during specific drills series, and power during conditioning movement. The student test for paired samples indicated that there were significant improvements following the training period. For example, vertical jump increased from 5 to 8%, contact time on floor was reduced between 15 and 25%, and finally the power increased from 12 to 18%. Plyometric conditioning seems to be beneficial for tumblers as demonstrated by general power improvements that were able to be transferred to sport specific parameters.
