Between the beginning and end of a repetition: How intrinsic and extrinsic factors influence the intensity of a biceps curl
(Zwischen dem Beginn und dem Ende einer Wiederholung: Wie intrinsische und extrinsische Faktoren die Intensität eines Biceps Curls beeinflussen)
Although the weight of the barbell is often the dominating resistance component in traditional exercises, additional factors, such as acceleration, bodyweight, body dimension, and attachment location of muscles, also play a significant role in a person`s ability to perform an exercise and the relative in- tensity of that exercise. Furthermore, although some of the factors have similar effects on the lift, others contribute quite differently. The relative magnitude of the influence on the exercise is also potentially quite different from factor to factor. Therefore, there is much to consider when attempting to understand not only the impact of a traditionally performed exercise with a barbell that starts and ends each phase at rest but also additional training techniques, such as isokinetics and isometrics (9), and explosive movements that end with throwing of the external resistance (12).
