Predictors of the use of performance-enhancing substances by young athletes

(Prädiktoren für die Verwendung von leistungssteigernden Substanzen durch junge Sportler)

The article presents a study which documents the use of substances to enhance performance of young athletes. Results of the study show that the main predictor of the athletes' use of such substances is behavioral intention and that their use is associated by attitude, subjective norm, and perceived moral obligation. As concluded, the psychosocial environment of an athlete has an impact on the utilization of performance-enhancing substances.
