Effectiveness of medicine ball exercise and eccentric exercise on glenohumeral internal rotation deficin shoulder in volleyball players

(Wirksamkeit von Medizinballübungen und exzentrischen Übungen bei Defiziten der glenohumeralen Innenrotation in der Schulter bei Volleyballspielern)

BACKGROUND: Volleyball like games are required to perform high speed repetitive overhead movement. It may leads to several changes in dominant shoulder like reduce in internal rotation range, Eccentric External rotators muscle strength, Concentric Internal rotators and ER:IR ratio. This is called Gleno humeral internal rotation deficit. This alteration is not properly corrected may leads to increase shoulder problems and affects performance in volleyball players. However limited studies have investigated the effect of an exercise training in volleyball player with GIRD. Therefore the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of eccentric exercise and medicine ball exercise in male volleyball players with glenohumeral internal rotation deficit. AIM OF THE STUDY: To evaluate the effect of eccentric exercise and medicine ball exercise in male volleyball players with glenohumeral internal rotation deficit. METHOD: The experimental design was conducted among the 30 sample (male) aged between 20 to 30 years and all the participants were selected as per inclusion and exclusion criteria and divided into 2 groups. Group A (15 samples) medicine ball exercise. Group B (15 samples)eccentric exercise. Group A and Group B engaged in 6 weeks 40 minutes duration 3 days per week of medicine ball and eccentric exercise respectively. The pre and post intervention assessment was carried out by using goniometer and hand grip dynamometer. RESULTS: There were statistically significant in both the groups medicine ball exercise group range of motion hand grip strength (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: This study concluded the Group B (eccentric exercise) show more significant improvement in term of range of motion and handgrip strength than Group A (medicine ball exercise)
