(Analyse der Spielleistung der portugiesischen Volleyballnationalmannschaft bei Spielen auf hohem Niveau)
Quantitative and qualitative analysis of performance in Volleyball is not a new concept.
Actually, at the elite level, we can observe several notational system's with different aims: for the press with objective data for the commentary of the match; for the coaches to prepare and to outline a game; and for the investigation to study and to analyse the game.
The systematic approach to game performance analysis supported with a accurate tactical mainframe it seems to us appropriate to understand and to study the game.
The purpose of this study was to describe and compare the game performance of the Portuguese Volleyball Team in 1999 World League and European Qualification Poule.
In this study twenty nine games of the Men's Portuguese Volleyball Team (n=29) were examined. Eleven games (n=11) in the 1999 World League, seven games (n=7) in 1999 European Qualification Poule and eleven games (n=11) in official preparation matches. They were analysed the game actions service (n=3345), service-reception (n=2814) and attack (n=3840).
The observation system used in this investigation evaluate the service (Sv) and the service reception (Rs) in reference to a fourth categories rating scale. The attack (At) was evaluated in reference to three game situations: success, continuity and error. Attack effectiveness was calculated in this formula: . The attack indicator Kill (Kl) was calculated by the relationship in percentage between the number of At of success and the total number of attack attempts. The side-out indicator (SO) concerning in percentage to the value of the At performed in the first play of adversary Rs.
Data was analyzed using percentages, means values and standard-deviations. Differences between means values were analysed by Student's t-test (.05 level of significance).
Data had been categorized and analyzed for competition, for match result and for game action and indicators.
A summary of global results indicate that are significant differences in the relationship between the means values of the Portuguese Team and its opponents at the Rs (p=<0.001), Kl (p=0.021), At (p=0.000) and Sv (p=<0.001) indicators.
The analysis of the relationship between victory and defeat of the Portuguese Team, indicate significant differences at the Kl (p=<0.001), At (p=<0.001) and SO (p=<0.001) indicators.
As main conclusions, results suggest that:
a) the performance profile of the Portuguese Team was substantially distinct of the one of its opponents;
b) Kl, At and SO seems to be outstanding indicators for the understanding of the Portuguese Team defeats.
