Neuromuscular imbalances and sprinting

(Neuromuskuläre Ungleichgewichte und Sprint)

This article will outline a scientifically robust neuromuscular theory underlying poor movement techniques that may be visible when coaches observe sprint performance. The goal of this article is to inform the sprint coach of a method to identify and correct suboptimal biomechanics to enhance athletic performance. The concepts in this article are derived from the physical therapy literature where the theory has been used to typically rehabilitate an individual after injury. Since the goal of both physical therapy rehabilitation and sports performance is to optimise human movement to achieve a functional goal, a direct link between these fields emerges. Unfortunately, these fields have yet to successfully interact within the sprint literature. This article attempts to fill the gap for the benefit of athletic training.
