Changes in EMG during the sprint start with different front and rear block angles

(Veränderungen im EMG beim Sprintstart mit unterschiedlichen vorderen und hinteren Block-Winkeln)

Introduction Optimising muscular activity during the starting action in sprinting events is desirable in order to increase the forces applied to the starting block (Mero & Komi, 1990). However, few studies have considered how EMG activity is affected by altering front and rear starting block angles; limited research also allows the performance at the front and rear blocks to be considered within a single start. It is therefore, the aim of this study to determine the effects of changing front (FBA) and rear (RBA) starting block angle upon the peak electrical activity (PEA) in a selected range of muscles.
