A new test for the assessment of sport-specific fitness in fencing

The purpose of the present study was to develop a sport-specific test of anaerobic fitness for elite fencers. Summary: This is the first study where the ability of the fencer to repeat a sport specific movement (lunge, retreat, linge) was assessed during a simulated competition. The fatigue observed during this explosive movement was evident at the end of the test, where ~15% decrease in speed was observed. Further studies are needed to examine fatigue during repeated bouts of simulated competition using this model of testing.
