Physiological and stroke parameters evolution during a 2 hours swimming exercise at self selected speed
(Die Entwicklung der physiologischen und der bewegungsstrukturellen Parameter beim Schwimmen über 2 Stunden mit selbst gewählter Geschwindigkeit)
The aim of this study was to ascertain whether physiological and stroking parameters remain stable during a 2 hours exercise performed at "Self-Selected Swimming Speed" (S4).
Discussion:
According to Zamparo et al (2001), the average values of self-selected speed as well as the corresponding values of RPE, stroking and physiological parameters suggest that S4 is dependent upon the same factors that determine endurance swimming speed in long distance events.
However, considering the [La], SL and RPE values variations, muscular parameters and a probably glycogenic depletion seem to be the main limiting factors that can not allow to maintain the self selected swimming speed chosen in the first 15 minutes of a two hours swimming test.
