The systems records of training loads in the year`s cycling prior to the Olympic Games: Comparative analysis
(Die Aufzeichnung der Trainingsbelastung im Jahrestrainingszyklus im Jahr vor den Olympischen Spielen: Vergleichende Analyse)
The purpose of the study was to conduct comparative analysis of approaches to recording of training loads in the last year`s training cycle before participation in the Olympic Games in the 100 and 400 m.
Data for analysis consisted of detailed records of training loads applied over period of year in J.S. - a finalist of the Olympic Games in the 4 x 100 m relay in 1988 and in P.H. - a finalist of the 1996 Olympic Games in the 4 x 400 m relay. The analysis was based on comparing two approaches to recording training loads: the system in which loads of anaerobic character are described as the time function of real response of a stimulus i.e. exercise completion and the time which is necessary for the replenishment of the fast fraction of oxygen deficit (fig. 1,2-A) was set versus the system of recording and examining training loads based on work time (fig. 1,2-B).
The course magnitudes of loads, measured by the time of real response of a stimulus, enables us to pick out (within the year`s cycle) zones in relation to training mezocycles which are specific to sprint running. The relationships between loads, corresponding to anaerobic, lactate conversions, were r = 0.576 (p £ 0.01) and r = 0.992 (p £ 0.001), for subject J.S. and P.H., respectively, and in the area of glycolytic processes r = 0.478 (p£ 0.05) and r = 0.567 (p £ 0.01), respectively. The findings indicate that classification of loads by both systems are compatible with each other. They differ significantly (p£ 0.001), however, with respect to the duration of an effective influence of a stimulus. This enables us to establish proportions between all applied training media in each of the energetic zones, creating a real picture of the involvement of athlete`s functional processes.
