Evaluation and comparison of isokinetic strength between long distance runners and sprinters

(Evaluation und Vergleich der isokinetischen Stärke von Langstreckenläufern und Sprintern)

The main purposes of this study were: (a) to investigate the Peak Torque (PT) and Total Work (TW) of isokinetic strength in long distance runners and sprinters after sports training; (b) absolute strength and the strength relative to body weight (%BW) among long distance runners and sprinters. There were 20 athletes including 10 long distance runners (LDR; up to 3000 meter runners) and 10 sprinters (SR; lower to 400 meter runners) studied in National College of Physical Education and Sports. Before joining this study, they had to record their injury history of low limb and with no other surgery during six months. Five isokinetic strength tests were measured by Biodex System III dynamometer at two speeds (60°/s and 300°/s). The flexion and extension test involved "quadriceps concentric, hamstring concentric "(C-C), "quadriceps eccentrit, hamstring concentric"(E-C), "quadriceps eccentric, hamstring eccentric"(E-E) modes. All data would be analyzed in Independem t lest (p<.05). The results were showed as Table 1 to Table 5 followed:
