Stress regulation test through mental image on the French National Women Synchronized Swimming team during the 1998 Perth

(Stressregulationstest durch mentale Vorstellung in der französischen Nationalmannschaft im Synchronschwimmen während der WM 1998 in Perth)

The ability to control the stress level is a critical element in the resulting sport performance. Therefore, we have been trying to implement a stress regulating based on the mental process. The use of the Neuro-Linguistic Programming tools has allowed us to identify and manage the components generating stress during three different periods : the selection phase, the pre-competition period, and the competition itself. This type of breakdown enhanced our ability to truly understand the several processes taking place. Methodology Our research used a groupe of 10 female swimmers, forming the French National team of synchronized swimming, ranging from age 18 to age 24. Each swimmer participed in three individual stress regulation sessions during the 1998 Perth, Australia World Championships. We were able to reveal the differences of the mental images for each swimmer and observe the impact of our work on their results throughout the competition. The techniques used allow the patient to live the present, step back and look at the future with a different perspective. They can also change the elements of a mental image.
