Influence of aerobic fitness on blood lactate concentration and on intermittent anaerobic exercise after a judo fight
(Einfluß der aeroben Fitness auf die Blutlaktatkonzentration und auf intermittierende anaerobe Belastung nach einem Judokampf)
This study investigated the influence of aerobic fitness (AF) on: 1) blood lactate (LA) during 15 min of active recovery (AR) and passive recovery (PR) after a fight and, 2) performance in 4 bouts of upper body Wingate Test with 3 min interval between them (4WT) after AR and PR. Seventeen judokas performed a treadmill test to determine their AF as determined by VO2peak and VO2 at anaerobic threshold (VAT). Subjects were assigned to 3 groups based upon their performance; Group A had high AF (n = 6; VO2peak: 69,97± 6,71 ml/kg/min; VAT: 53,59± 4,11 ml/kg/min), group B had a medium AF (n = 5; VO2peak: 65,84± 4,37 ml/kg/min; VAT: 46,43± 4,08 ml/kg/min) and, group C had a low AF (n = 6; VO2peak: 55,13± 3,92 ml/kg/min; VAT: 39,23± 6,02 ml/kg/min). Groups A and B presented higher VO2peak compared with C (p < 0.05). Group A had higher VAT than B and this a higher VAT than C. All athletes were submitted to a fight, AR or PR (at random) and to 4WT. Comparisons between groups and treatments were made with a two way ANOVA. After PR, group A performed more (p < 0.05) total work (564± 33 J/kg) than group C (509± 59 J/kg). Similar result was observed after AR (group A: 570± 32 J/kg; group C: 519± 42 J/kg; p < 0.0.5). For groups A and B, half time of the LA removal during AR was lower than during PR. Performance after procedures was similar. These results indicate that higher AF was related with higher performance in intermittent anaerobic exercise, but faster half time of LA removal was not.
