Clubs in English soccer's top-flight Premier League are facing a shortfall of UK£540 million (US$717 million) for the 2020/21 season due to lost matchday revenue, according to the Financial Times (FT).
In figures collated by Premier League officials and seen by the FT, the 20 teams could stand to lose more than half a billion pounds during the upcoming campaign under plans to allow only the partial reopening of stadia in October.
The report adds that top-flight executives estimate the cost of managing their venues to limit the spread of Covid-19 will be an additional UK£16 million (US$21.3 million).
