(The assessment of anaerobic capacity of football players)

The aim of the study was to evaluate changes in anaerobic capacity of football players in relation to their age and the course of the preparatory phase of the training period. A total number of 132 athletes representing all age categories, i.e. youngsters, cadets, juniors and seniors, participated in the study. All of them were subjected to the 30 s Wingate test by using cycle ergometer (Monark) and MCE 2.0 software. The following basic mechanical variables were recorded: maximal power output, time to attain and time to maintain the maximal power, total work output and power drop index. The data were processed by conventional statistical procedures - Student's t-test for independent data at significance levels of p = 0,001, 0,01 and 0,05. The results are indicative of anaerobic capacity being highly age-dependent. Moreover, the anaerobic capacity of football players significantly changed throughout the preparatory period.
