A study on the consistency of putting stroke
(Eine Studie über die Konsistenz des Puttens)
The purpose of this study was to identify the consistency of golf putting stroke between professional players and recreational players. To measure the consistency quantitatively, we used clustering algorithm and clustered data was represented by a dendrogram and transformed it to numerical average values. The kinematic and kinetic parameters such as paired alignment (for head, elbow, pelvis and knee lines), electrooculogram (EOG) and grip force were measured. The participants consisted of two groups based on their playing ability: 5 professional players (K-PGA) and 5 recreational players (Handicap between 15 and 25). All of them were male and right handed. An 1 m x 10 m artificial putting surface was set up for the experiment. A putting grip force measuring system, EOG System, 3D motion analysis system (Motion Analysis Co, USA) with 6 Falcon cameras were used to collect all kinematic and kinetic variables. All systems were synchronized by main operating software. The data was collected for each subject performing 15 trials of putts from 3 distances: 1m, 3m and 5m. The data was analyzed by our own program written by MATLAB (Mathworks Co., USA) Software. The result shows that the consistency was founded both players and professional group has more consistency in kinematic variables and grip force than recreational group. The eye movement of professional players was less than that of recreational players.
