Methods to gather key performance indicators for prosthetic feet

Chapter on the design of protheses is presented by Starker, Nickel and Hansen. It has always been a big challenge to replace limbs with mechanical tools. Contemporary prostheses show an amazing combination of different technology from sport and healthcare as well as from mechanical and electronic engineering. The amount of research activity in this field is a striking indicator of the increasing significance of prostheses. Not least, and this may dose the circle to the field of motor activity from the first chapter, prostheses have helped to develop a quite new field of sports for handicapped people, significant of course for individuals in particular and for the Paralympic Games in general.
