Physical adaptations to resistance training in humans : Effects of growth hormone
(Körperliche Adaptationen an Krafttraining beim Menschen: Auswirkungen von Wachstumshormon)
Growth hormone (GH) is known to play a positive role in muscle growth and maintenance by regulating protein turnover, either directly or indirectly. In addition, previous studies demonstrated that pre-exercise administration of GH augmented elevations of plasma free fatty acids (FFA) and glycerol concentrations at rest and during exercise, indicating lipolytic effects of GH. Although total amount of spontaneous GH secretion decreases with aging, regular exercise training might be abreak through for increasing GH secretion in 24h. Increasing muscle mass and reducing body fat would be major purposes of exercise training in most people. Because of its anabolic and lipolytic effects, GH appears to be important for adaptations to various types of training including resistance training and endurance training. Therefore, information regarding exercise-induced GH response is meaningful in the prescription of optimal exercise.
