From Tokyo, through Paris, to Los Angeles and beyond - preparing athletes to face the heat of a warming world

The purpose of this article is to highlight the importance of utilising heat mitigation strategies prior to and during competitions held in the heat, and to provide athletes and coaches, specifically, with easy to use, consolidated guidance regarding the optimal implementation of these strategies. Whilst there are clearly other environment-relevant issues that may threaten performance and/or health of athletes, including air and water quality, this brief review focuses on those that are modifiable by the athletes and can be used before and during events to prepare for competing in hot conditions.
