Extending the limits of human performance - Athletes will continue to break records but not as easily as previously thought
There is no doubt that human beings will continue to perform according to the Olympic motto, citius, altius, fortius (swifter, higher, stronger). Performances in `power' events have perhaps raced ahead of others in recent decades and may be slowing as a result of more stringent anti-doping policies. The greatest improvements in performance are likely to come in the more endurance based events where the benefits of nutritional supplementation in the delaying of fatigue, and optimisation of training by strategies such as specific inspiratory muscle training, have yet to realise their full ergogenic potential.
