Acute creatine ingestion: Effects on muscle volume, anaerobic power, fluid volumes, and protein turnover

This study examined the effects of creatine supplementation on thigh muscle volume and anaerobic power (repeated cycle sprints) in high power male and female athletes, fluid volumes in aerobic and cross-trained males, and whole-body protein turnover in experienced male weight trainers. It was concluded that ingestion of creatine monohydrate influences several factors related to skeletal muscle hypertrophy and the performance of repeated explosive exercises (6 x 10-sec cycle sprints). These effects occur regardless of gender, mode of training, or level of fitness. Implication. Creatine supplementation enhances muscle hypertrophy and the performance of repeated sprint exercises.
