IT sports for competitions - A field tested concept for online and ad-hoc sports information technology

This paper presents an overview of a generic information hub used for disseminating online sports information from a number of information sources like timing data and radio voice records to different sinks like internet users and on-site commentators. The aim of this R&D field is to provide organisation companies of sport competitions with an information technology environment based on an underlying ad-hoc network and a middleware software architecture. In contrast to similar systems used at Olympic Games or World Championships this system is optimised for the requirements of outdoor mass sport events like marathons, skating, cycling or triathlon. A number of field studies at different Ironman triathlon events have led to a practicable software tool.
