The effect of elite athletes" perfectionism on mistake ruminations, competitive state anxiety

The purpose of this study was to verify the relationship between perfectionism, mistake rumination, and competitive state anxiety of elite athletes, and to verify the mediating effect of mistake rumination in the relationship between perfectionism and competitive state anxiety. The subjects of this study were 198 individual athletes belonging to domestic business teams. The results of this study were as follows. First, In research model 1, Perfectionism had positive effect on mistake rumination. In research model 2, Perfectionism and mistake rumination had positive effect on competitive state anxiety. Second, Mistake rumination mediated significantly the relationship between perfectionism and competitive state anxiety. It is believed that athletes need to establish not only physical and technical training but also psychological strategies such as cognitive restructuring to control anxiety.
