Many factors contribute to alpine race performance (1,3). Conventional reporting strategies of race results (i.e. rank, FIS points, etc.) do not yield much information about the actual race itself (1). Understanding how race results deviate from expected can lead to a better interpretation of causal factors. Because z-scores indicate how far a score deviates from its mean, they may help identify which variables affect unique performances. This investigation converted World Cup (WC) Downhill (DH) race results to z-scores.
