The influence of boot stiffness on performance and quadriceps muscle activity during slalom training

Ski boot stiffness is an enigma. If the ski boot is overly stiff, the skier may lose feel of the snow and terrain. If the ski boot is excessively soft, body movements cannot be transmitted precisely to the ski. The purpose of this case study was to investigate performance and iEMG quadriceps muscle activity of a national caliber ski racer while skiing soft and stiff ski racing boots during slalom training.
