Bibliography on the Profile of Mood States in Sport and Exercise Psychology Research, 1971-1998 (POMS)

(ibliography on the Profile of Mood States in Sport and Exercise Psychology Research, 1971-1998 (POMS))

The Profile of Mood States (POMS) was originally published by McNair, Lorr and Droppleman in 1971, and was intended to be a measure of "right now" kinds of mood states, particularly in people undergoing counseling or psychotherapy. However, the POMS quickly gained popularity in sport and exercise. The current bibliography is a compilation and extension of past research on the POMS in sport and exercise by LeUnes and others (e.g., Daiss `£ LeUnes, 1986; LeUnes and Egeberg, 1988; LeUnes, Hayward, and Daiss, 1986; Snow and LeUnes, 1994). There have been 257 POMS-related publications since its introduction to sports in 1975. In this current bibliography, there are 194 articles relating to sport and exercise. An additional 63 POMS articles dealing with athletic injury, disabled athletes, intramural sports, overtraining, psychometric issues, and steroid use are included for the interested reader as they are also relevant to the use of the POMS in research. Thirty-two different sport and exercise areas are represented in the 194 sport-related articles.
