Muscle repair and complications of muscle healing: radiological imaging

Muscle injury is one of the most common musculoskeletal injuries and typically occurs at or close to the musculotendinous junction or epimysium. Although aspects of clinical and radiological diagnosis are well documented, less attention has been directed to the potential role of imaging during the process of muscle repair and the complications that may develop following muscle injury. With regard to muscle repair, the potential role of imaging will be considered in terms of: 1. the value an initial diagnostic imaging study may provide regarding prognosis and likely future progression of muscle repair; 2. the information imaging may furnish when monitoring the state of muscle repair; 3. imaging of complications following muscle injury
