Der Einfluss von Flüssigkeitsverschiebungen auf die Bestimmung muskulärer Dehnungsparameter
(Influence of fluid shifts on the estimation of passive muscle stretching parameters)
Quantification of viscoelastic stress relaxation and of stretch-release-hysteresis of the hamstrings is usually obtained by means of the straight leg raise test or a knee extension test. In order to find out to what extent results of the above-mentioned test procedures are influenced by gravity-induced displacement of body.fluids, the gravity moment in the exemined leg of seven subjects was tested before and after a straight leg raise test in supine and in lateral position. During static as well as dynamic straight leg raise test in supine position a weight reduction of 7,5% and 5% respectively wad detected, whereas in lateral position a reduction of weght did not occur. This can be explained by gravity-induced fluid shifts in the tested leg. In consequence a misjudgement of stretching parameters amounting to 28% may occur in a straight leg raise test in supine position. To avoid this error of measurement the test procedures should be carried out in lateral position.
