Understanding the complexity of athlete selection in Paralympic sport
Athlete selection is a complicated and difficult process, the results of which can positively or negatively influence expertise development and performance success. Currently, there is a pressing need for more empirical evidence on athlete selection in Para sport contexts. This chapter introduces the Institutional Analysis and Design framework and embeds it into Newell's constraint-led approach to discuss and better understand the interaction of multiple contextual and individual factors that can influence athlete selection. This framework is also used to highlight areas for future research.
