(Sportlerkarriere: vom ersten Schlag bis zum ultimativen Paddler)

The video is part of "ICF performance education" - a free online series aimed at coaches, athletes and administrators who wish to expand their knowledge on specific topics to improve their own performance or that of their athletes. Experts from around the world host these sessions online, with the opportunity for the attendees to ask questions which will be answered live at the end of the webinar. The videos are posted online afterwards for those who are unable to attend at the specified day and time. Todays session (1:15:34) is on an athlete's career from the first stroke to the ultimate paddler. Speaker is Jean-Yves Cheutin who was a member of the French kayak slalom team for 15 years, which included representing France at World Championships and the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Following retirement as an athlete, Jean-Yves was appointed as French national team coach, a position which he held for nine years. In this time his athletes achieved multiple World Championship medals and an Olympic silver medal. He then moved to Russia where he has been the national slalom team coach since 2013, where he coaches athletes from junior to elite levels. Under his leadership Russia earned four Olympic quota places and two athletes reached the final at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Jean-Yves completed a masters degree in physics, followed by studies in evaluation of physical preparation, sports teaching, communication and management. As a director of ASMO, Jean-Yves' company strives to bring innovation to sporting equipment and improve the attractiveness of sport. Session information: Jean-Yves Cheutin will present his approach to the athletes` career. This holistic point of view of the development of the paddlers` skills takes into consideration the natural development steps of the athletes as well as the extraordinary richness of the paddling sports. From a coaching map to a whole development project for a federation, through this webinar, Jean-Yves Cheutin will demonstrate that focusing on potential rather than on immediacy increases the chances for athletes to deliver their best on "D-Day".
