Relationships between concentric and eccentric strength, jumping performance, speed and change of direction in academy rugby union players
Previously it has been reported that eccentric muscle actions result in higher force production ( 20 - 60%) compared to concentric muscle actions. This may be the result of both mechanical and neural differences between the two actions. As a consequence of athletes beingstronger eccentrically, traditional strength testing may not adequately assess eccentric strength. Therefore, it may be ecessary to assess eccentric muscle actions independently
