Resistance, power and cardiometabolic training
The integration of strength, power, and cardiometabolic training into the annual macro-cycle for a figure skater requires careful planning. Ultimately, the strength and conditioning coach must consider the developmental stage of the athlete, training age, identified gaps in physiological characteristics, and the program-specific elements in order to craft appropriate off-ice training plans. The guidelines presented in this chapter offer some insight into a sensible approach for developing the physiological qualities necessary for high-level figure skaters across the developmental spectrum.
