Australian Weightlifting Federation - Annual Report 2007
The composition of the HPMC has proved to be ideal in bringing to the discussions the cross section of views and opinions from the principal parties in the sport, being comprised of AWF Board members, leading coaches (male and female) and an Athletes Commission representative, as well as the AWF CEO. Discussions have been wide ranging and strongly focused on "new thinking" to support the concept of long term, properly structured programs with specific long term outcomes at International level.
Many aspects of the High Performance Program for 2007 were frustrated and restricted by the lack of funding, due to the withholding by the ASC of funds which would normally have been available. This matter is dealt with in more detail elsewhere in this Annual Report. A resolution of this problem towards the end of this financial year has enabled work to be done on forward budgeting for the next year.
The principal decisions and outcomes of the HPMC include the following.
1. Introduction of new Qualifying Standards.
2. Athlete Incentive Programs (Senior and Junior)
3. Coaches Incentive Programs.
4. Development of the Gold Medal Incentive Program Agreement.
5. Proposal for new structure of National Events (2008)
6. Proposal for appointment of National High Performance Systems Manager.
7. Proposal for Strategic Planning Workshop.
8. Proposal for establishment of National Coaches Panel.
9. Development of Operational Budget for High Performance.
10. Development of performance evaluations for coach, manager and athletes comprising AWF teams.
11. Recommendations for changes to the AWF NCAS and NOAS Training Programs.
12. Development of a High Performance Program Budget.
13. Input into the AWF`s 2007-2010 Strategic Plan.
14. Development of Job Descriptions related to the future attainment of High Performance.
It should be emphasized that the principal work of the HPMC in this year has been to lay the foundations for the future. New initiatives and better structured and coordinated forward programs hav established a greater focus on obtaining significant results in the future, with particular emphasis on long term outcomes at International level.
