Prevention in young players. Physiological causes of osteochondrosis and prevention in young players

On epiphyseal osteochondrosis and apophyseal osteochondrosis in young players. The symptoms are mechanical pain, with no inflammation but a tendency towards functional disturbance. For cure and prevention, it is essential to know the child's level of play, training methods etc. As soon as the pain occurs, two X-rays must be made, one frontal, the other lateral. Medication should be given for the pain and rest should be prescribed.During the rest period, exercises should be performed to elongate the calf muscles, hamstrings and quadriceps. Training of the muscles must continue. The duration of treatment depends on the anatomic form of the skeleton, compliance with the instructions, the degree of weakening of the apophysis and, perhaps, calcification forming at the insertion of the tendon into the bone.Injections or surgery are not commended for children.
