Relationship of physical characteristics to running performance and blood lactate in 12-14 year-old girls
(Beziehung zwischen den Körperbaumerkmalen und der Laufleistung sowie dem Blutlaktat bei 12- bis 14-jährigen Mädchen)
The purpose of this study was to determine the variance explained by somatotype, selected anthropometric variables on 30 m, 100 m and 400 m run time.
Subjects were 32 healthy girls (mean age = 13.61±0.56 yrs respectively), who competed in local 30 m, 100 m and 400 m distance run. Performance time for the 30 m race was 4.601±0.25 s, 100 m race was 17.19±0.59 s and 400 m race was 95.64±7.60 s respectively. The girls represented a physically active group.
Variables measured included standing and sitting height, weight, selected skinfold thicknesses, circumferences, diameters and Heat-Carter somatotype (Leake, & Carter, 1991). Blood lactate was determined using the enzymatic method (LACT, Boehringer-Mankeim). Our results showed that data of 13.61±0.56 year-old girls were slightly endomorphic and more mesomorphic and ectomorphic than the former (S=2.18-4.6-3.3 respectively). Capillary blood lactate assesment is increasingly used by runners to monitor the intensity of run. At the same proportional level of maximal running velocity endomorphy girls showed a higher capillary lactate concentration than mesomorphy and ectomorphy girls post running 400 m distance.
