Breathing and poling entrainment in ski skating

Coordination of breathing with walking, running, cycling, and rowing movement patterns has been explored to help better understand locomotion energetics. In most studies (e.g., Bonsignore et al. 1998 or Mahler et al. 1991), entrainment of breathing cycles to movement cycles has been found. Entrainment has been hypothesized to improve economy of motion. In skiing, the V1 and V2 skate techniques are both used on moderate uphill slopes but exhibit differing cycle and poling frequencies. Research question: In V1 and V2 skating, does breathing entrain with skating or poling cycles or at alternative frequencies?
