Metabolomic profile of swimming sessions performed at different exercise intensities in high performance swimmers
Govus, A., Lawler, N. G., Mitchell, L. J. G., Goldsmith, C., Kozlovskaia, M., Pyne, D. B.Published in 29th Annual Congress of the European College of Sport Science, 2-5 July 2024, Book of Abstracts (2024)“…Each session was scheduled two days apart. 1.0 mL capillary whole blood samples were collected before and immediately following the cool down for each session, centrifuged and 0.1 mL of blood plasma was frozen for metabolic phenotyping using 1H-NMR and LC-MS spectrometry to give broad lipoprotein, lipidomic and amino acid coverage. RESULTS: Preliminary random forest classification analysis of pre- vs. post-exercise time points revealed that exercise in the severe domain altered metabolites involved in membrane structure and energy metabolism (triacylglycerol`s and phosphatidylethanolamine`s), whereas exercise in the heavy and moderate domain mainly altered free fatty acids involved in oxidative energy metabolism and the inflammatory response (e.g., eicosatrienoic acid). …”

How can swimmer's nutrition improve the performance: a systematic review
Cai, Y., Zhou, C., Huang, C.Published in 27th Annual Congress of the European College of Sport Science (ECSS), Sevilla, 30. Aug - 2. Sep 2022 (2022)“…The main focus of research on nutritional supplement is on Creatine, Branched-chain amino acids, L-carnitine and Lycopene. CONCLUSION: Unbalanced energy intake in three meals a day, insufficient carbohydrate and fat supplement and excessive protein intake, lack of certain micronutrients and the improper use of nutritional supplement are the main problems that need to be solved to the performance of swimmers.…”

Energy metabolism in continuous, high-intensity, and sprint interval training protocols with matched mean intensity
Eigendorf, J., Maassen, M., Apitius, D., Maassen, N.Published in The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research (2021)“…Increases in [NH3] suggest similar sources between the 3 training protocols and the need for further research concerning amino acid deamination. The better understanding of the acute reactions and changing of the energy metabolism during training sessions will help athletes in planning and executing their training sessions more efficiently and more precisely in the context of periodization.…”
