Swimming stroke mechanics: A biomechanical viewpoint on the role of the hips and trunk in swimming

The purposes of this paper are (1) to examine the anatomical and biomechanical factors associated with spine stability as they apply to swimming and (2) to consider the implications of emphasizing hip and body roll during front crawl swimming.
