Maximal 200-m front crawl swim differently influences on blood PCO2 at swimmers at diferent performance level

The purpose of the present study was to compare the effects of maximal swimming on blood acid base Status between swimmers at different performance levels. Twelve former competitive male swimmers and nine recreational male swimmers performed a maximal 200-m front crawl swim. Measures included lactate concentration and parameters of blood acid-base Status before and during the first minute post-exercise. There were significant differences between groups only in PCO2 values comparing difference between measurements in the first minute after the swimming and measurements before the swimming. H could be concluded that prevention of hypercapnia is more evident at competitive and less at recreational swimmers during maximal 200-m front crawl swim.
