Training of swimming technique based on a concept of propulsion, on complex diagnosis and on a profile of coordinative demands

The concept of propulsion, the diagnosis of swimming technique, the coordinative training based on a profile of coordinative demands and on the teaching process (action approach and/or the motor approach) are subject matters of this paper. As a base, we present a heuristic concept of propulsion. The heuristic concept of propulsion, a Newtonian approach, supplies the foundation for choosing the relevant technique characteristics. The DigiCoach results affirm this assumption, as the maximum acceleration takes place when the direction of the deflected mass of water is more or less backwards. The core of the technique diagnosis at the Olympic Training Center in Heidelberg is the DigiCoach (conception and development M. Buchner). This method of diagnosis registers the horizontal intracyclic accelerations or decelerations by means of an accelerometer-goniometer-device. The System we have developped measures the acceleration in the sagittal plane and its own inclination towards the horizontal plane. With the topic coordinative demands we bridge the gap. The coordinative training is based on specific coordinative requests which have been validated in expert ratings in accordance to each learning/training stage.
