Trajectories of plastic and feather shuttlecocks

In this study, the flight patterns of feather and plastic shuttles were compared. All the experiments were conducted in an enclosed hall where there was minimal air movement, comparable to that of an indoor badminton court. The shuttles were projected and their flight trajectories were captured on video using 200 Hz Cameras. The captured motions of the shuttles were digitized and analyzed using the Peak Motus motion analysis System. The flight trajectories as well as the orientation of the shuttles were examined. The results indi-cate that there are differences in the orientation as well as flight trajectory of the two types of shuttles.
